Government levies 10 per cent import duty on wheat

NEW DELHI: The government on Friday imposed an import duty of 10 per cent on wheat until March 31 next year, a measure aimed at helping the Food Corporation of India offload wheat of poor quality and making cheaper wheat from France, Russia and Australia unviable. He said the notification dated August 7 seeks to "impose basic customs duty of 10 per cent on wheat till March 31, 2016 under Section 159 of the Customs Act 1962".
